About sites and site resources

In Adobe GoLive, a site is a collection of files on a local drive that are used as resources for developing and maintaining a Web site on a public server. Visitors to the public site will view some but not all of these files; specifically, they will view only the files that would appear in the central pane of a links view of the site. These files are the home page, pages hyperlinked directly or indirectly to the home page, and media files referenced by any of these pages.

Visitors will not view the rest of the files, and normally these other files will not be not uploaded to the server.

The files comprising the site include the site file and the contents of two folders: the root folder and the site data folder.

  • The site file is viewable as the site document in the various tabs of the primary site window.
  • The contents of the root folder are listed in the Files tab of the primary site window.
  • The contents of the site data folder are listed in the Extras tab of the primary site window.

Visitors to the site view only files in the root folder, either all the files in the folder or the subset of these files that is referenced in the visitable site.
